Sângătin wooden church is the oldest building of this type in Sibiu County. It is dated 1687, but it probably is a few decades older. St Archangels Michael and Gabriel Church is built and covered in wood. The church interior is painted and the specialists think its painting is unique due to the biblical themes combination.
The sanctuary doors date from 1769 and the bell – from 1717. Traces of an embossed icon can be seen on the bell; the icon might be the representation of the Archangels and of Virgin Mary.
The church was originally built in another village; it might have been Topârcea, Apoldu de Jos or Ludoş. A wood inscription indicates that Topârcea is the place of origin.
This church is included in Save the Monument Campaign as it desperately needs painting restoration. More than 60% pf the painted area is seriously damaged.

RăspundețiȘtergereAm mai incercat sa comentez la articolul despre casa din Piata Mica 22 si sa spun acolo ca e un monument vizitat si pentru ca studenti anului 4 curent de la UAUIM au ca tema la proiectul de restaurare de anul acesta monumentul cu pricina. Nu stiu de ce n-a intrat acel comentariau,

RăspundețiȘtergereDin pacate, se pare ca am ceva probleme cu moderarea comentariiior. Sper ca am dibuit, in sfarsit, mecanismul.
Nu stiu daca studentii au fost la Sangatin, preotul nu a mentionat acest lucru. Dar orice mana de ajutor ar fi foarte binevenita acolo, cred eu. La Apoldu de Jos, au lucrat studenti si au facut o treaba buna: se vede diferenta intre portiunile restaurate si cele nerestaurate; mai e insa mult de lucru.
RăspundețiȘtergeresigur ca au fost; chiar eu am fost indrumatorul ... releveul acesta a fost chiar unul dintre cele mai bune si a fost prezentat intr-o expozitie itineranta sub egida proiectului OAR privind salvarea a 60 de biserici din lemn.
